Well, guys, photography is all about light: photo=light; graph= writing. And a decent photog should be able to control that light, whether it is natural (read:sun) or unnatural (read:strobe). But, too many, ahem, photogs out there like to use the excuse: "I'm a natural light photographer" when the reason behind choosing "natural light" is they know too little about lighting. Or how to light their subject with strobes/flashes, or even a reflector in order to get the best image for your client - even when shooting outside.
Now, I"m not saying ALL natural light photogs use the excuse, but, I've been perplexed with the number of photogs who - when pressed further - don't really know much about making those images pop and stand out with a little help from an SB800 in a softbox.
And, just recently, I passed a photog who enlisted the help of a little guy - about 8 years old - to be her "lighting assistant". That little guy was doing his darndest to hold the reflector where mom(?) told him. Made me chuckle. But, I felt worse for the couple she was shooting pics of. Unless, of course, the 8 year old was their kid and this was giving him something to do....
Long story short: be prepared to offer the best lighting, natural or otherwise; when you shoot.
Be PREPARED. Your clients will thank you.
